  230. WHAT IS THE PIE MENU ?
  231. The Pie Menu is a non linear menu that belongs to the marking menus category.
  232. It appears on request of the user wherever he wants on the screen, letting available 4 choices at time.
  233. The purpose of the Pie Menu is to propose a new way of navigation in hypertext spaces or inputting commands with the possibility to show on the screen no permanent buttons (like Go To Next Page), that is leaving on the screen only the real necessary information.
  234. This book will explain how the Pie Menu has been implemented as navigation, text and fonts tool, with no need of pull down menus to select the different functions.

  236. HOW TO USE THE PIE MENU ?
  237. To invoke the Pie Menu use (single click) the Right mouse button.
  238. Just keep it pressed wherever the pointer of the mouse is, and the Pie Menu will appear. Move the pointer in the direction of the command you want to execute and then release the button.
  239. You have an immediate feedback of the action you are going to do, because the command name changes to red color.
  240. To do no actions after having invoked the Pie Menu, just release the button again in its centre.
  241. To act in an invisible way, you have to remember the position of the commands. Press the Right mouse button, move to one direction and release it in less than one second...

  243. WHO DEVELOPED THIS PROTOTYPE ?
  244. This is the third release of the Toolbook Pie Menu prototype.
  245. You can freely adopt this idea and scripts in your own applications.

  279. If you are reading this page, it means that you used the Pie Menu in
  280. Navigate mode correctly.
  281. The Scripts of this field (called MyText as default) are not activated, in order to allow you to test this prototype in deep.
  282. Now invoke the Pie Selector and choose the Text mode.
  283. If you want to see how many hotwords are contained in this text, just 
  284. select the Show Hotword command of the Pie Menu, that is pressing the
  285. Right mouse button, moving the pointer to the Left and then release it.
  286. Of course, hotwords do not work when the scripts of the field are not active.
  287. Now try to scroll Up and Down this text using still the Pie Menu in Text mode. I configured the scrolling rate by 5 lines.
  288. If you want to act with fonts, just select the Fonts mode in the Pie Selector.
  289. The current page name, Pie Menu action and Pie Selector mode are
  290. always shown in the bottom of the page.
  291. You can select a word or sentence and transform to bold with just a gesture, that is clicking and moving the pointer to Left.
  292. To change to Courier font, try the Down direction.
  293. Much more surprising is using the Pie Menu without making it appearing.
  294. Do your action in less than one second.
  295. Things change through gestures. No more visible buttons to input usual commands.
  296. I tested this release of the Pie Menu with Pen Windows operating system, too. The feeling represents a further step in the direction of a better user interface.
